Discover the breakthrough technologies behind the new PMW-EX1 camcorder from Sony that has everyone talking. Experts from Abel and Sony will take you through the technical specs and unique features that enable the EX1 to deliver outstanding images and an efficient workflow at such an affordable price.
EX1 Camera Tour: Beyond the Basics
Andy Shipsides, Abel’s Sales Support Tech, will cover the innovative features of the EX1 including its manual focus system, expanded focus capability, selective color correction and automatic depth of field indicator.
Director of Photography Mark Benjamin (Protocols of Zion, Brooklyn Babylon) will show recent footage from his commercial shoot for Euro RSC Agency and share some of his insights on shooting with the EX1.
A Critical Evaluation of EX1’s Image Quality
Jesse Rosen, Abel’s Director of Technical Development, and Juan Martinez, Senior Manager, Technology for Sony Broadcast, will discuss the imaging capabilities of the EX1. They will demonstrate EX1’s overcranking, undercranking and shutter effects, as well as a variety of looks that can be achieved by utilizing the camera’s selectable gamma curves. Critical attributes of EX1’s MPEG-2 Long GOP codec will also be discussed.

EX1’s MPEG-2 Workflow in the Real World
Kaori Uno, Applications Marketing Manager for Sony Broadcast, and Michael Wong, Senior Manager / Professional Applications for Apple, will walk you through EX1’s non-linear workflow via its SxS PRO memory card media and MPEG-2 recording format. Post, edit and content management processes in both Avid and Final Cut Pro environments will be covered.

My comments on the Ex1 is that is can be a pain to handhold. Solution: look at the VSB1 made by Studio 1. http://www.studio1productions.com/vsb1.htm

While you still need your left hand to help suppor the camera, the brace makes it much easier to keep it steady when handholdling
